Untrendy Marketing scores TWO finalist spots in first-ever Reels award show, The Reelies

Untrendy Marketing, a Palm Beaches-based agency, has snagged two finalist spots at The Reelies, the first-ever award show dedicated to solopreneurs, content creators, small businesses, and entrepreneurs who are redefining the digital landscape with Instagram Reels. The event will be held this September at The Plaza Theatre in Atlanta, GA.

The Reelies Awards consist of five major categories: concept, creative skills, visuals and audio, performance and production, and entertainment. A jury of some of the biggest names in digital and creative marketing selected five finalists in each of the 30 sub-categories. Untrendy Marketing received two nominations in the Performance and Production Category for best costume and makeup–no surprise considering the entire team's theatrical background!

Inspired by the #GhostPhotoShoot trend that started in 2020, Untrendy Marketing founder Alexa Evans and theatre teacher by day/fashionista by night Jessie Woodard brought the trend to Palm Beach last October. They donned white silk sheets and designer shoes and sunnies to pose in front of Worth Avenue shop windows.

“We had a blast filming, and while sticking to the original #GhostPhotoShoot trend was our main focus, I think our finalist submission to the Reelies—a spoof of the ‘Sex and the City’ intro credits—was even better,” says Evans.

While the #GhostPhotoShoot video earned them over 17.5K impressions on TikTok alone, the SATC spoof was equally popular with the Worth Avenue crowd—the Reel was picked up by @WorthAvenuePalmBeach on Instagram last October, receiving 17K+ additional impressions.

“Our approach to marketing isn’t about chasing the latest trends – it’s about staying timeless,” says Evans. We capitalized on an iconic television show and one of the few social media trends that has remained relevant year after year. I’m excited to see that our strategy has been recognized with a Finalist nomination for The Reelies.” 

Now that finalists have been announced for The Reelies, the public is invited to vote for their favorite Reel in each of the 30 sub-categories.

And while Untrendy Marketing has two nominations in the Best Costume or Makeup category, their eyes are on the prize for their ghostly spoof. The iconic Reel by Untrendy Marketing can be found in the Performance and Production category (liked above) under Best Costume or Makeup (Category 22) as “Finalist 3.” All voting closes on Sunday, August 11th at 11:59pm EST.
